MCI student competes in Canada Winter Games

This winter was an exciting one for Jonah Ginter, a Grade 10 student at Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna, Man. From Feb. 25 to 29, he competed in the 2020 Special Olympics Canada Winter Games held in Thunder Bay, Ont. His sport? Snowshoeing. “I like the challenge snowshoeing gives me, and that it’s a unique sport and it’s not every day you meet someone who races in snowshoes, which is cool to talk about,” Ginter says.

Winning awards is nothing new for Adam Ens. Maybe that’s why he expressed surprise when his whole family planned to show up for his induction into the Canada West Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony took place on Feb. 8 at the University of Saskatchewan, where Ens played with the Huskies men’s volleyball team from 1999 to 2004.

When Jessa Braun observed a dearth of media coverage for professional female athletes, she decided to do something about it.

Braun is the founder of SheScores.ca, a website that aims to raise gender equity in sports and empower women in sports by shining a light on female athletics.

Growing up just south of Winnipeg in Morris, Man., I was involved in sports starting in elementary school. I participated in many school sports but invested most of my time in basketball, playing competitively from Grade 5 until Grade 11.
