The 30th annual Heifer Relief sale sponsored by Ontario Mennonite Relief Sale Inc. will take place at

Carson Auction facilities, Listowel, Ontario on Friday, February 18, 2011 starting at 11 am. All proceeds from the sale will go towards the work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC).

“We expect over one hundred heifers to be donated to the sale,” says sale committee chairman Clarence Diefenbacher. “The animals will range in age from calves to springing heifers, and from grades to deep pedigreed purebreds.”

The organizing committee is currently seeking consignments for the sale. We expect a good quality selection of animals from some of the industry’s leading sires.

“Over the past 29 years the Heifer Sales have raised over four million dollars for MCC through the donations of over 3,100 heifers,” reflects Diefenbacher. “Last year’s sale raised over $172,000.”

Diefenbacher goes on to explain that local farmers, agribusinesses, and individuals generously support the Sale by donating heifers, sale facilities, staff, trucking, feed, straw, veterinary, and auction services and facilities. Many area ag-industry related businesses sponsor ads and other expenses for the sale. Anyone who contributes to the sale is issued a tax receipt.

Mennonite Central Committee works in over 60 countries around the world, responding to basic human needs and working for peace and justice.

“This is an excellent opportunity for farmers and agribusinesses to support MCC programs,” adds Diefenbacher.
